Ethical Issues with the song chosen

I have chosen a song for my media project which features conventions which are very delicate and which can be classed as inappropriate to some. I should have considered such implications before even attempting to shoot any footage and collecting my clips. The song features some inappropriate language and connotes sex. The idea of the music video was to present women as seen in their natural surroundings whereas the actual song does everything except show respect to women. Lauryn Hill's "Doo Wop" lyrics do aim advice at women who are "lost" let's say, and does so in very colloquial language.


The song was perfect because it can be managed and adapted to suit the video in such a way that the two pieces: song and video, go against each other and show women in respectable positions. This R&B classic is also sung by a woman which shows that some women view the cause in different ways and Lauryn Hill just simply doesn't women to be demoralised by men who just want to use them.


Where the song will feature such lyrics as "To begin, how you think you're really going to pretend
Like you wasn't down and you called him again? Plus when, you give it up so easy you ain't even foolin' him," the video will show a female student going about her work, and making her way in this world. The point of the music video was not to offend but to have a video which picked apart misogyny and portray women in a feminine and nonchalant manner. The song will ridicule that and it was all thought out as some will always bring down a cause, but it is up to the person whether they let it get to them.


My story board will need to be adapted and some footage will need to be taken out and replaced with another sequence which features a female character. The video will not feature any teacher footage and so either substitute footage will need to shot by me or I could edit in some unused footage which I didn't use because of time limitations.
