Target Audience: Shannen's sequence

Target Audience: Shannen's sequence

I have finished editing part of the music video and have posted it to the social network YouTube to receive some comments from my target audience and see if I am on the right track with my music video.

Majority of the comments are very positive and praise my work which is great as it tells me that this part of the video is interesting and appeals to the target audience. All the comments realise the different angles I have used in this sequence to make it interesting and to raise target audience appeal. The character is very interested in art and so I wanted to the character to be doing a stereotypically feminine task but be proud that she can do it and has the talent to do it, and so the background had to represent her.

The second comment compares my other videos and says that this one is a lot better as it as an actual sequence with a lot of angles and shots which makes it really good and it is appreciated by my target audience.

Drafting and Planning: Shannen's scene

Drafting and Planning: Shannen's scene

I have recently edited a scene which will be present about half way through the music video but I have made a sequence with all the shots to see how it will play out and whether it is good and if it suits with the rest of the video.

This is a sequence of a couple of shots with a variety of angles. I really like it as it simply follows the actions of a young female student as she works on her art. I love it as she does a simple yet very tiring and detailed task. It is very feminine but the background really represents her personality and her integrity as a female artist.

The editing I decided to go with in this sequence is fade as I have tried jump cuts and it just did not work as the editing was too fast for the lack of action and so fade is way more smoother for the video. The fade out suits this sequence greatly as the whole footage just flows from angle to angle and so makes a very interesting piece.

Target Audience: YouTube clip

Target Audience: YouTube clip

I have posted a short piece of my footage on YouTube so that my target audience can comment on and evaluate the footage I plan to use for my video. This is a very helpful method of finding out what I am doing correct with my projectm what the target audience like and don't like, as well as finding out what the demographic think I can improve.
The firsto comment is very helpful and gives me a clear idea of what I can do to make the shot more interesting for the audience. Adding more shots, for example zooms in on her bag or her face, will vary this one continuous wide angle shot and not make the video so plain. The close up of the face is a great idea as the audience can see some of her emotions and get a feel of the character and her strong sense of self. The comment does praise the overall shot which is good and gives me hope that I am on the right tracks.

The second comment praises and recognises my camerawork which is great as I have tried to position the camera still but also tried to show off most of the art room so that the audience knows that the character is about to do something to with art and something that requirestalent. The comment follows the same path that the first comment and advises me to make it more interesting by adding a wider variety of shots to show what the character is feeling. Over all i am glad with the responses as they prove Im on the right track with this video and also give me clear and constructive improvement.

Target Audience: YouTube Felicity clip

Target Audience: YouTube

I have recently posted a a short clip from my footage on YouTube to see what my target audience thinks of my project and all the different aspects if it such as editing and the overall camera work.

Most of the responses were really positive and the last comment recognised exactly what I was trying to do by having the female character use the very heavy machine. The last comment also commented on my camera being really smooth which is great as I would not want the camera work to be distracting from what is in the frame. This footage is really good to use in my video as it fits with the music perfectly as it tries to show women as equals and tries to battle misogyny.

The second comment also praises the footage but makes some interesting remarks about how I could possibly improve it to appeal to a wider audience. The second comment also realised the creative environment that I tried to create for the female character. The second comment also raised a great question of actually fitting the footage in with the lyrics. The lyrics tell women to treat themselves better and not stoop lower to try and be noticed by men. The lyrics also mention women wearing little to be noticed, but this footage shows the female character putting on an apron and wearing casual clothing to do her work to be praised for.

The first comment also praises my work which is great as all the comment were positive and that shows me that I am on the right tracks to create a great and appealing project. The comment also advises me to put some shots together to make a sequence. That is what I planned to do but at first, I wanted individual comments on each clip to make sure it is liked and that it fits in with my idea.

Drafting and Planning: Felicity machine scene

Drafting and Planning: Felicity machine scene

This scene was filmed on the 16th of December on the grounds of the school. The scene includes a female student that goes about her textile work which shows her to do tasks which is typically feminine. The shot used here is an over the shoulder shot which perfectly shows what the character is doing. The scene is still a textile room and that can be seen by the background and the walls as they display textile work.

The editing I will use to transition from this scene to the next scene could be a dissolve. To show how smoothly the work the character is doing as she is a talented. The prop used here is an ink press and it is a difficult machine to use. It is hard to press as it is heavy and therefore requires skill. This shot shows that women that want to do a specific task can and therefore can create beautiful pieces of art.

Drafting and Planning: Felicity scene

Drafting and Planning: Felicity scene

I have recently filmed more footage for my media project on the 16th of December on the grounds of the school. This footage wasn't planned and was not a part of the storyboard, however I have recently re-evaluated my storyboard and it didn't have enough of a variation in it as the female characters are mostly leading roles in a school. I wanted to branch out the narrative and decided to alter the storyboard. I wanted to have a female character to do a task that is stereo typically feminine, but show harder aspects of it that make the female character proud to be capable to do those tasks and have the talent to do it.

The camera work is minimal as the camera was on a tripod and therefore was still. The shot used in this scene is a long shot, which is perfect as it shows perfectly what the character is doing and where she is. In the background, the walls are covered in textile work and materials that have been hand sown, and it can be guessed it was done by females. There are book behind the character piled up to show that women can also handle a lot of work.

The most important part of this clip is the change the character makes from being dressed in her coat to wearing an apron. This signifies the change she has to make to do jobs that a woman has to do. An apron is stereotyped to be a woman's item of clothing. The female character just carelessly throws the coat on the desk showing that she doesn't care much for what she is wearing as the apron is more important to her as she can get to work when she is wearing it. Also men are stereotyped to be messy and her careless action shows that there is not a lot of difference between men and females.

Target Audience: Comments to YouTube video

Target Audience: Comments to YouTube video

Recently I have posted to Youtube a short amount of footage which I shot of a teacher at my school. I have received comments from my target audience about the video and it has given me an insight to whether I am headed in the correct direction with this project. The comments were mainly positive and praised my efforts.

The first comment realised the effort with the very interesting choice I made with the over the shoulder shot to capture the subject's dailt acitivities as a woman. The prop use was also very successful as it represented the teacher in a very feminine way and showed that she is bound to the object in her hand. The target audience member also is very excited about my project which makes me feel that I am doing the right thing with this project.

The second commenter saw in my footage a hint of mystery, which was uninteded but I do see how sh ewould get that. Now that I think about it, it does add a certain represenattion to it. How women have to keep most of their "extra curricular" activities to themselves. Overall the comment sI received were positive and put me on the right track.
